Patrick Rulore, winner of the prestigious Sasol New Signatures Art Competition in 2019, has shared the impact the competition has had on his life and career. Since his victory, Rulore’s career has experienced a significant boost, affirming his artistic journey and providing him with numerous opportunities. Bag Factory Artist Studios which has now travelled to the Sasol Art Gallery. The exhibition can be viewed by appointment until 11 July, as well as during regional submissions for Sasol

With submissions just a week away, Rulore emphasised the importance of self-belief, originality, and perseverance in pursuing an artistic career. He acknowledged the challenges artists face and urged them to remain patient and open to learning. Rulore stated: “Being an artist is not an easy road, but it is a journey worth pursuing. Stay true to your vision, be open to new experiences, and have the endurance to overcome obstacles along the way.”

The Sasol New Signatures Art Competition, which is presented in collaboration with the
Association of Arts Pretoria, continues to provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent, gain exposure, and connect with the art community. The competition’s rich legacy spans over three decades, and it has played a pivotal role in nurturing artistic excellence and launching careers.
Artists wishing to submit their work can do so at designated collection points nationwide on
Tuesday, 6 June, and Wednesday, 7 June, from 10:00 to 16:00. Along with the artworks, a completed entry form and supporting documentation must be included.
The winner of the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition will be announced on Wednesday,
6 September 2023. The winner will be awarded R100000 and a solo exhibition at next year’s exhibition. The runner-up will receive R25000, and five merit award winners will each receive
R10000.
