What a weekend of Jazz at UJ Arts

By Edward Tsumele, CITYLIFE/ARTS Editor

It was one of those weekends whereby missing the action would not feel cool. What with the likes of Mandla Mlangeni on stage on the first day of the feast, that is Thursday night, setting the stage for an weekend of uplifting jazz experience.

I was there for two days, first on Thursday to watch Mlangeni in action, and this artists is good at what he does -again on Saturday, and this time to watch Gabi Motuba do what she does best, and boy the sister has some of the most beautiful vocals on the local music scene, and the experience of watching her perform to her best was a memorable event that will linger in my consciousness for a long time to come.

ON Saturday, I was however unable to attend the last leg of the UJ jazz weekend that saw Keenan perform as I had to watch rugby with a rather rowdy but pleasant crowd at a well-known pub in Parkhurst. But I am sure those who attended Keenan’s show on Saturday must have enjoyed as much as I did enjoy Mlangeni and Gabi’s shows.
