Winnie play returns to National School of the Arts

By Edward Tsumele

When I saw this play at the National School of the Arts in August on its last day of a four day season, I was impressed by the acting, the story line and the directing. The set was simple but impactful as it resembled a grave yard where the late freedom fighter Winnie Madikizela-Mandela speaks from the grave. It is a powerful play that looks at another aspect of the multi0facted life and times of Winnie. The writer and director Thabang Kwebu takes a sympathetic look at the late freedom fighter, a part of her life that was less celebrated when she was alive and is now getting to be acknowledge after her death.

And those who may have missed its first short run, now have an opportunity to watch this production, again at the National School of the Arts in Braamfontein.

Titled Nomzamo The Stone that the Builders rejected,  this production will force you to re-imagine Winnie’s life. It is play from September 19-22, 2024.
