Art and book collectors will have a field day as they are spoilt for choice during Strauss &Co’s October online auction as that sale brims with quality art works including sculptural works, lithography and collectable books.

“Strauss & Co is pleased to present October ART, a timed online auction showcasing a rich array of works. The sale highlights important and interesting works through sessions including Art ClubImpression/Expression, and Re/View, alongside the impressive works by esteemed painter Wendy Vincent.

Impression/Expression showcases figuration in different forms—from Edoardo Villa’s heraldic figures to Norman Catherine’s absurdist figures with elongated limbs, Douglas Portway’s Standing Nude, alongside realist and abstracted figures morphing in space, each work invites a unique exploration of the human experience. Re/View coalesces significant works by Kudzanai Chiurai, Marlene Dumas, Kendell Geers as well as Ephraim Ngatane among others, drawing a connection between South African modern and contemporary art,” the auction houses states.

The sale includes a large selection of affordable art historical books including Goya, Monet, Modigliani, Matisse, Vermeer, Basquiat, Warhol and more. This incredible selection offers deep insights into the lives and works of some of the most influential artists through stunning reproductions and texts that act as a portal into the cultural contexts and personal narratives that shaped their masterpieces. A great addition to any library, collectors and art lovers will find this selection both inspiring and invaluable, illuminating the enduring impact of artists on contemporary art and society.

A significant portion of October Art highlights the alluring practice of a pioneer in the field of stone and lithography, master painter Wendy Vincent. Vincent studied both at the Durban and Witwatersrand Technikons before continuing her training in New York and Paris. Her paintings, deeply invested in nature, depict metamorphic and evolving landscapes punctuated by entwined and gestural abstracted forms.
