Well known radio personality John Maytham in staged works of Mike Van Graan

John Maytham, well-known Cape Talk radio personality and an actor who trained at Rhodes University, will be seen in staged readings of of well known playwright Mike Van Graan’s two new scripts at the Wave Theatre (entrance between Tiger’s Milk, 44 Long Street, Cape Town) before the end of November!
On Sunday 17 November at 16.00, John will read the role of a discussion facilitator in a television talk show, where his guests – representing the Abrahamic faiths – discuss themes related to the deeply polarising conflict in the ‘Middle East’. He will be joined by four esteemed actors, Royston Stoffels, Jenny Stead, Langley Kirkwood and 2023 Fleur du Cap ‘Best Actor’ winner, Brent Palmer. The reading of this script – Abraham’s Promises – is a one-off, so should you be interested in this ongoing conflict, best you purchase tickets soonest. (Those interested, may stay for a short discussion after the reading).
Then, from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 November at 19.30, John will perform a staged reading of To Life, With Love, a one-hander script that celebrates life despite – and because of – ageing, reflecting on important themes and challenges encountered by a generation in their ‘third age’. Described by some who saw an initial reading as a ‘captivating and riveting piece’, as ‘a love letter to life’ and as ‘beautiful reading of a poetic script’, To Life, With Love will move and stimulate audiences.
Both readings – these are plays in development that will benefit from audience feedback – are directed by Josh Lindberg (winner of two major awards for his recent design of the set in Damon Galgut’s The Promise directed by Sylvaine Strike).
