Renowned broadcaster, cellist and classical music conductor Kutlwano Masote has gone literary with the launch of his new debut book scheduled for November 4, 2025 at Love Books in Johanneburg.
“Xarra Books is proud to announce the upcoming book launch of Imperfect Harmony: A Memoir, a poignant and inspiring debut by renowned conductor, broadcaster, and cultural visionary Kutlwano Masote. On the 4th of November 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Masote will officially launch his debut book, Imperfect Harmony: A Memoir, at Love Books in Melville, Johannesburg. Published by Xarra Books, Imperfect Harmony: A Memoir offers an insightful and compelling narrative of South Africa’s cultural and musical landscape.
It chronicles the harmony and discord experienced in a nation defined by change. In this book, Masote traces his life journey through the evolving landscape of South African arts and culture, from the orchestra pit to the heart of community storytelling.
Masote provides his personal perspective in the book, stating, “This memoir is my personal story, but it’s also a historical document of sorts. It is also my homage to those visionaries and mentors who came before me, making it possible for me and the Mates of this world to experience the magic of music.” (Page VI) This event marks another milestone in Xarra Books’ commitment to publishing authentic African voices that inform, inspire, and, crucially, unite broad and diverse audiences through the shared language of culture and music.
