Alexandra Arts Academy partners with Arts Alive to host policy conference
Alex Arts Academy in partnership with Arts Alive presents :
Current Affiars Theatre Festival and Policy induction workshop. Theme “The New Norm “a theatre festival reflecting on events and reflections since lockdown was declared. Youth telling stories of covid 19.
Since its inception in February 2019 by well-known arts administrator, Actor, Director and activist Mr. Mpho J Molepo, Alexandra Arts Academy has grown by leaps and bounds not only by nurturing young minds and empowering future generation artists but also partnering with leading arts institutions, arts organisations and practitioners.
It is through the partnership with Arts Alive that the academy is in a position to present Current Affairs Festival and Cultural Policy Training programme facilitated by the esteemed Mike Van Graan to be attended by 45 young leaders and centre managers from the five regions of the province. The workshop will be held at Alexsankopano from the 25th – 27th Septemmber 2020. It is going to be a live workshop.
The program will we help the attendee to understand and have information about the development of post-apartheid cultural policy and the role of cultural workers’ organisations in the formulation and advocacy of cultural policy, have insight into current international and African cultural priorities and trends have an understanding of the content of the first White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage and the changes being proposed in the revised White Paper on Arts, Culture and Heritage and also develop capacity to engage in the development of and advocacy for general and specific (to particular disciplines) cultural policies.
Current Affairs VirtualTheatre Festival includes ten one hander productions. The purpose of this festival is to allow young people to tell their Covid 19 stories and how the pandemic affected their personal lives and their families.
How their families lived and survived during lockdown and understand how they have adapted to the new norm or new living. Ten directors will be hard at work for two weeks directing Ten one hander productions that will be recorded for a virtual Arts Alive Theatre Festival.
