Congratulations to Menzi Mbuli Mkhwane. He has been appointed as the Director of the Community Arts Mentorship Programme at the The Playhouse Company in Durban.

This is an excellent appointment! During the last two years of lockdown Menzi has kept the theatre lights burning in Durban by playing within the lockdown restrictions. Through his independent company he has presented productions at various venues in the city by always playing to the regulatory 50% capacity and by making it a full house.

This award winning actor holds multiple talents. From scooping a Standard BAnk Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival Makhanda to winning city-based awards and from working on theatre and television Menzi has never become too comfortable in what he does. He has always aspired for higher. He is an arts entrepreneur, an innovator and a daring creative who embraces challenges with vigour, enthusiasm and and an open mind.

He is ideally suited for this role at the Playhouse Theatre. He will be able to draw on his resilience to keep theatre lights burning under the dark cloud of the lockdown to making it thrive under the more relaxed lockdown conditions.

Menzi is a straight-talking but humble guy. He takes no fools in his stride. Community arts mentorship in Durban is going to be in really good hands. Well done to the Playhouse Theatre for making an appointment that matters.
