Ané Oosthuysen – as sweet as apple pie!
Miss SA Top 30 hopeful shares her favourite recipe
By CityLIfe Arts Writer
One of Ané Oosthuysen’s guilty pleasures is watching the chefs battle it out on MasterChef Australia. So it’s no wonder then that this 23-year-old Vanderbijlpark resident, who also happens to be in the Top 30 of this year’s Miss South Africa hopefuls, is keen on whipping up delicious dishes in her kitchen.
Oosthuysen, who has been working as an assistant teacher at a primary school while also being a full-time student studying for her PGCE teaching qualification, also has a BA degree in psychology and sociology and Honours degrees in psychology and medical sociology, all from North-West University. Ultimately, she hopes to become a qualified educational psychologist, but until then she is happy teaching, playing netball, spending quality time with her family and baking apple pies!
Ané Oosthuysen’s Apple Pie
Ingredients
250ml sugar
30ml butter
125ml milk
2 eggs
250ml cake flour
5ml baking powder
385g of apple slices
Pinch of salt
Pinch of cinnamon
200ml cream
200ml sugar
5ml vanilla
Method
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Mix eggs and sugar and then add the milk and butter and mix well.
Combine the flour, salt, cinnamon, and baking powder and add to the egg mixture.
Pour the batter into an ovenproof dish and carefully place the apple slices on top.
Bake in the oven for 60 minutes or until golden brown.
When ready, remove from oven and allow to cool down.
In a small saucepan pot, heat the cream, sugar and vanilla.
Pour over the apple tart before slicing and plating!
