Fundraising call to assist injured artist
By Mike van Graan
On 31 January, we launched a Back a Buddy campaign in support of Kim Blanche Adonis, the performer in My Fellow South Africans and He Had It Coming, who had torn ligaments in her ankle and will be unable to perform – and earn income – at least till mid-March. A secondary aim of the campaign is to integrate a new actor – Mphumzi Nontshinga – into a version of the script aimed at young people to encourage them to participate in the forthcoming elections.
Just two weeks later, thanks to the generosity of people like yourself who had seen Kim perform, we have raised just over 50% of our goal (through the campaign and direct contributions to MVG Productions)!
Over this last weekend, Kim represented our team at the inaugural Independent Theatre Awards which were held at the TX Theatre in Tembisa where she won the Best Solo Performance Award (to add to her US Toyota Woordfees Best Solo Award)! (See the attached pics of Kim at the Awards). My Fellow South Africans also won the Best New Script award.

I will be based at the University of Free State in Bloemfontein for the next 3 months as part of a writer’s residency to write a new play.
Rehearsals with Mphumzi are nevertheless in full swing (I worked with him last week, and Kim will continue to work with Mphumzi in the next two weeks).
If you have already made a contribution to the campaign, THANK YOU! If you’d still like to support the campaign by making a donation of R100 or more, please click on the link below (it would help enormously with our planning if we could realise our goal by the end of February).

Contributors to the campaign will be invited to an initial performance of the new version of My Fellow South Africans performed by Mphumzi Nontshinga in late February. As part of its development, contributors will also be invited in March to a staged reading of The Good White – the new play that I’m working on in Bloemfontein.
Thank you for your support; it continues to be much appreciated!
