Contemporary art always presents a reality that breathes endless possibilities in such
a way that is unafraid, non tradition-bound and yes as a reflection on the demigod.
Some elements that have gained popularity are textile, embroidery and materiality
and its usage by ingenuity of its creators.

Textiles are not merely fabrics; they are the woven narratives of humanity. The exhibition seeks to explore and delve into the rich tapestry of textile artistry, embroidery and materiality looking at how each artist
translates threads. The connection and combination is always a result of its own
language and properties.

The exhibition looks into three artists Khadim Bamba, Lerato Motau and Nikiwe
Dlova. For Lerato, the interwoven wool strands create layers and interconnection.The
vibrant nature of her work represents the ongoing positive portrayal, honoring of
women, and portrayal of day-to-day existence.

Khadim Bamba



Khadim Bamba’s work is a refectory of surrounding where he comes from. The
fabrics used are off a traditional Senegalese fabrics.The fabrics are traditional
garments from the intricate motifs of ceremonial textiles and every pattern speaks a
language of its own. Reflecting the nuances of heritage and belief systems as he
brings all the fabrics to life.

Nikiwe Dlova



Nikiwe’s work looks into the importance of the head crown through using hair by
recreating and giving it a persona through weaving and constructing material.
Nikiwe’s interest is fusing history, culture, and design, she is able to illustrate how
limitless hair can be in her narrative. Her innovative way in bringing forth an
expressive way on how hair should look at hair, not just in terms of style but also in
relation to how they use their hair to interact with their surroundings and their attire.



Ultimately, this exhibition invites contemplation on the enduring power of material of
the artist that transcends time and connects us to our shared human experience. As
