The opening of We, the Purple exhibition at Javett Art Centre in pictures

By Edward Tsumele, CITYLIFE/ARTS Editor

On Thursday last week there was a hive of activity at the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria where an important exhibition titled, We, The Purple opened celebrating 30 years of democracy. The exhibition also incorporates the past visually as well as the present. It is an exhibition worth attending as it opens the possibility for visitors to see and imagine the future through these images. The artists represented in this exhibition are as diverse as the country’s cultural experiences and the periods covered are wide, from Noria Mabasa to JH. Peernef.

You will also encounter the work of artists such as George Pemba and Gerard Sekoto among others. This exhibition runs till the end of the year, and therefore you may want to include this as one of your festive season’s must-do things. We, the Purple is curated by guest curator Khumo Sebambo who did a pretty good job of it.
