If you are looking for an event to enjoy a fun filled day with plenty of music, fashion and artistic expression, as you celebrate women, then you probably do not  have to looker further than Soweto on August 7, 2022, for that is where the action will be.

The magnetic creative team at Locrate have designed and curated a fun-filled day out at the Locrate Market in Orlando West on August 7. “A WOMAN’S WORLD”, the first market post-Covid, is about celebrating women through music, fashion and creative expression.

Sifiso Dlangamandla, one of the powerhouse creatives behind the launch of Locrate, is passionate about bringing people home, encouraging South Africans to enjoy and support local, to return to the “hood” and reconnect with their roots.

Locrate (short for Local Creatives) was born out of the need for young black creatives to develop local platforms to assist them to grow sustainable business trade: “The concept of Local Creatives is all about creating an environment that allows like-minded people to validate their ideas and create new business concepts that have never existed in townships before.”

In 2014, the group came together and created Locrate Market, to ensure that there are platforms for aspiring SMMEs, artists and creatives from different townships.

The idea behind the market is to create an environment where young and aspiring entrepreneurs, creators and innovators can showcase and sell their products, meet other like-minded people, validate original concepts, get tips from established brands, create connections and get the necessary exposure to take their businesses further.

An added bonus for Joburger’s wanting to go through to the market on August 7, is the partnership with the Big Red Bus which will depart from Rosebank at 1pm to the market site.

Travel in style while also enjoying a tour of Jozi on the way. The bus, will from Cradock Ave, Rosebank at 11:30am with a tour of the city, stopping at the market for visitors to browse, listen to music, eat and “chill”, leaving the market at to return to Rosebank in the late afternoon.

Support local entrepreneurs while sampling delicious food from “mother trucker” food trucks, live music, poetry readings and singular designer apparel. Also sip on a range of wines by Nanola Wines – 100% black woman-owned with some of the finest grapes sourced from various regions in the Western Cape. In addition, Apiwe Nxusani-Mawela, a South African brew-master and the first to earn a National Diploma in clear fermented beverages, will be there with her craft beers. She is the first black woman in SA to found a micro-brewery.
