Food, wine and poetry at Spilt Milk Social Café in Melville this Tuesday
BY Edward Tsumele
Today, Tuesday, May 30, 2023 is a big day for those who love poetry because it is Poetry Tuesday at Spilt Milk Social Café in Melville. These sessions which have been going on for the past two months is probably one of the best kept secrets in Johannesburg. The venue is intimate, the company good. The food is good two and so is the wine. So you know what I mean when I say this is one of the best kept secrets in town, especially for those who love the written word, in general and poetry in particular.
For R150 you get to get food and wine. And this time around I am told that there will be wine tasting too, making the event quite enticing to attend. For the past two sessions that I have attended, I found them quite illuminating, even though we were a small crowd, and that is why I have said this is one of the best kept secrets in Johannesburg where only a few friends conspire to meet and enjoy food, wine and of course poetry that the author either reads or performs. Books are also available to purchase.
For this session spoken word poet Busisiwe Mahlangu is the featured poet, and for all intends and purpose this session with Busisiwe on the podium, promises fire-works.
“You can start running/ from all the mouths that want to swallow your body like a fault.
You can start running from yourself/ when you are holding the spade to collapse the fault.” You can expect to hear more of such intellectually stimulating and rhyming poetry from Busi.
