Artist Open Studios event in Selby, Johannesburg, beckons for art collectors and art enthusiasts this Sunday

If this weekend you are looking for a place where you can immerse yourself in art and also have a good glass of wine as you view art works by several artists, you do not have to look further than  Selby, South of Johannesburg. There is a thriving art community there who have made the place their home. There are artist studios in this giant industrial building from the first floor up to the second floor. When I was first introduced to this place in 2021 by visual artist Vusi Beauchamp, who for sometime, has been a champion for this pioneering art space, there were only a few artists there with their studios. But ever since the number has increased exponentially, and one of the reasons this place is now becoming a popular place is because the artists that are renting studios there have taken it upon themselves to organize  events especially on weekends.

The latest event that will take place there is on October 6, 2022, whereby a number of artists will be hosting visitors into their studios, a rare privilege not always afforded to art collectors and art enthusiasts. You will also have an opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine or two as you move around from one studio to another while your eyes are feasting on the creations by various artists that have taken space from the first floor to the second floor in this building.

Painter Dathini Mzayiya is one of them.  But he is not alone as the following artists are participating: Participating Artists: Solomon Mugutso, rans Thoka, Richard Ramotoana (winner of the recent Thami Myele Award), David Madlabane, Simon Ndima, Vusi Beauchamp, Tinyiko Jeff Maluri, Ludumo Toto Maqabuka. .The Open Studios event is at Genop House, 15 Hulbert Rd, New Centre n Selby, Johannesburg, from 10 am till 4pm (Free Entry) Cash Bar  is available.
