David April’s profound last celebration
By Nomfundo Nkosi
Shakespeare once said death be not proud. I find it profoundly true after witnessing the event celebrating the iconic tributes of David Thatanelo April from Kimberly, South Africa. He was born in 1969 and his departure was unexpected.

The man recognized around the globe, outspoken within the creative arts-facilitation and dancing.
A man admired for his wisdom, humor, leadership and supportive role in his everyday life. On the 23rd of May 2025 a ceremony was held at the John Kani theatre venue at the Market Theatre, where his demise sent still shock waves among his colleagues, and former students. This was his second memorial services as the first was held at University of Pretoria where he was a lecturer.

He is remembered as a trendsetter in his career path and his relationships with people. He built his legacy under the spirit of Ubuntu. He has been a wonderful motivation to others and worked with the late Dada Masilo. His work has been a living light for a decade and a couple of years till now. David April is a reminder that do good unto others and it shall be added unto you.
