Cape Town-based landscape painter Joanna Lee Miller is set to debut her solo show, Here I Find, at StateoftheART Gallery in Cape Town from 24 June until 15 July.
A classically trained artist, Miller uses landscape as a medium of storytelling, creating her oil paintings en plein air – outdoors in nature. Her ability to capture the fast-changing light is a testament to her skills honed at the prestigious Florence Academy of Art in Italy.
Inspired by John O’Donohue’s quote “We feel most alive in the presence of the Beautiful for it meets the needs of our soul”, Here I Find showcases a wide range of Joanna’s expressive, bold and dynamic paintings of the Cape landscape: an invitation to connect deeply with the beauty of nature through place. Viewers will be transported to the specific places where Miller created her paintings through a map provided to guide them on a journey of discovery.
“For me, painting en plein air is about more than just creating a beautiful image,” says Joanna. “It’s about connecting with the natural world in a deep and meaningful way, and capturing the essence of a place in a way that is both honest and true.”
The opening of Here I Find promises to be an immersive experience, with all senses embraced as visitors are invited to explore the landscapes that inspired Joanna’s paintings.
“Join us on 24 June, from 11am – 2pm, at StateoftheART Gallery, 50 Buitenkant Street, Cape Town, for a celebration of natural beauty and the power it holds over our emotions,” the gallery says in a statement.
