Jazz in Jozi,a music collective that’s a proclamation of the path that lies ahead, bringing forth musical territories where sonic realms are constantly in flux. Jazz in Jozi is a concert series featuring trailblazing musicians Ofentse Moses Sebula,Keorapetse Kolwane and Rorisang Sechele.  The performances will take place at Chiesa Di Pazzo Lupi, an event space in Melville where some of our top jazz musicians such as Mandla Mlangeni, Tumi Mogoroshi, Reza Khota and Mark Fransman have performed in the past few months.

The assortment of bandleaders and ensembles in the concert series is refreshing and audiences will get a taste of the wide and varied influences of Jozi’s jazz landscape. Jazz in Jozi is the culmination of an endeavour to bring a new sound to the conversation that aims to explore the extraordinary dynamic range of South African music presented by the current crop of innovative young musicians.

Jazz in Jozi will kick off with South African saxophonist and protégé Ofentse Moses Sebula who’s debut album H.O.P.E (Holding on to Positive Expectations) was released in 2021.  Sebula, a member of the National Youth Jazz Band since 2018 will lead his ensemble on December 9th

Keorapetse Kolwane

On Saturday, December 10th, Chiesa Di Pazzo Lupi will make way for 2017  SAMRO Overseas Scholarship for voice winner, Keorapetse Kolwane, who together with her formidable ensemble will present music from her latest offering. The enigmatic vocalist Rorisang Sechele is scheduled to grace the stage on Sunday 29th January 2023.
