Phumulani Ntuli’s Wish List exhibition headed to David Krut Project Gallery
By CityLife Arts Writer
Educated both at University of Johannesburg and Europe Ntuli and his art practice are going places. His last critically acclaimed solo exhibition was held at UJ Gallery in 2024, and now this February he is having another show at David Krut Projects Gallery in Parkwood, Johannesburg. With 2026 already well underway, David Krut Arts is excited to announce a new solo exhibition of unique new works by South African artist, Phumulani Ntuli. The exhibition is entitled Wish List and will open at the David Krut Gallery in Parkwood, Johannesburg at 11am on the 14th of February 2026.
Created in collaboration with the David Krut Workshop, Ntuli’s Wish List presents a new series of mixed media works which explore the intersections of desire, aspiration, and consumer culture. Ntuli describes each piece as functioning simultaneously as an archive and a reflection — collecting fragments of visual and material culture to reveal how personal longing is shaped by digital economies and social expectations.
In this sense, the works resonate with the concerns of American Surrealist and post-Surrealist artists of the 1960s and 70s, who similarly sought to make sense of a world that felt increasingly irrational, mediated, and disjointed. Like those artists, Ntuli uses juxtaposition and fragmentation as tools to reflect the psychological and social conditions of this moment in time, acknowledging a reality that often appears more surreal than real.
