South African cook book writer phenomenon Mogau Seshoene’s star is rising internationally as her book The Lazy Makoti has been named best in the world at Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

“Jonathan Ball Publishers is delighted to announce that Hosting with the Lazy Makoti, the second cookbook by trained chef and author Mogau Seshoene, was named best hosting book in the world on Saturday at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Umeå, Sweden,” said in a media statement released yesterday, May, 29, 2023.

Mogau represented South Africa in Sweden over the weekend after Hosting with the Lazy Makoti was chosen as South Africa’s best in the category, Entertaining, by the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards earlier this year.
Mogau took to social media after her win, saying “So incredibly proud and grateful. We did it y’all!!”
This year marks the 28th Gourmand World Cookbook Awards and brings together the best of over 100 000 screened books and publications from some 230 countries and regions. There are various criteria for each category on the list, but they have all in common one guiding principle, all books are chosen for their appeal and importance from an international point of view.
