From the moment the iconic score bursts to life on the screens at Ster-kinekor in Sandton, Jurassic World: Rebirth sweeps you into a whirlwind of nostalgia and excitement reminiscent of 1993.

With breathtaking visuals, heartwarming performances, and a plot that expertly fuses adrenaline-pumping thrills with a sprinkle of nostalgia, this is the renaissance every Jurassic fan has yearned for.

For years, the Jurassic franchise has mesmerized audiences around the globe, and the latest instalment isn’t just a film—it’s a rollercoaster experience that revives the magic we all adore. As the first hyper-realistic dinosaur lumbers onto the screen, you are whisked away to a world awash in wonder and awe.

This time, the story plunges us back to 2010—the calm before the storm of Jurassic World—where ambitious scientists toy with the fabric of nature, creating trans-genetic, mutated dinosaurs in clandestine labs. But when one of these monstrous experiments—a deformed six-limbed tyrannosaur dubbed “Distortus rex”—escapes its confines, chaos ensues, leading to a brutal incident and a hasty evacuation of the island.

Fast forward seventeen years to 2027, when the earth’s climate turns hostile, forcing these magnificent beasts to take refuge around the equator, creating no-go zones reminiscent of the ancient Mesozoic era. Enter Martin Krebs, a suave executive from Parker Genix Pharmaceuticals, who recruits the fearless Zora Bennett (played by the ever-charming Scarlett Johansson) to embark on an audacious mission: to snag genetic material from the very dinosaurs that have been haunting human imagination for decades.

Zora leads her eclectic team of mercenaries into the treacherous heart of an island that holds the echoes of the original Jurassic Park. Their daring quest to extract DNA from three colossal species—land, sea, and air—is fuelled by a wildly ambitious goal: discovering a cure for heart disease in humans. As the expedition unfolds and the stakes rise, the team stumbles upon a clandestine secret that has been buried under layers of time and deception. In their search for the dinosaurs, they heroically rescue a stranded family of four, a father and his two daughters and boyfriend of the daughter. The family was left stranded after their boat withstands a ferocious attack.

Just as they manage to collect their first precious DNA sample, the Equator reveals its perilous nature. tensions mount as the crew wrestles with their fears—united one moment, at each other’s throats the next. Separated and facing different challenges, they must navigate the island’s dangers, with some mercenaries facing a grim fate at the jaws of hungry predators. The ensemble cast, vibrant and relatable, embodies a rich tapestry of backgrounds and motivations, effortlessly drawing viewers in with their camaraderie and emotional journeys.

Audiences will find themselves cheering for these underdogs as they fight against insurmountable odds in a battle to escape the island’s grip. The film boasts high-quality special effects and jaw-dropping CGI that create an exquisite visual feast, complemented by a mesmerizing score that heightens every moment of tension and triumph.

The plot is a beautifully woven tapestry of action, humor, and emotion, filled with unexpected twists and turns that keep audiences riveted until the credits roll. Themes of unity and sacrifice add a poignant depth to the story, enriching the cinematic experience.

If you’ve ever caught your breath at the thrill of the Jurassic franchise, then this film is an absolute must-watch. It promises an exhilarating adventure, wrapped in a compelling narrative, starring an all-star cast, and amplified by stunning visuals that make a theatre experience essential.

And let’s not overlook one of the film’s standout moments: Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis defying gravity (and logic) by somehow keeping his glasses perched perfectly on his nose, even while tumbling down cliffs! It’s a hilarious testament to cinema’s magic, and just one of the many delightful surprises in this thrilling ride. So, gather your fellow dino enthusiasts and catch the film at your nearest cinema—it opened on July 4, and trust me, you won’t want to miss this epic adventure!
