Festive Lights Switch-On 2022 attracts even more star power

The annual City of Cape Town Festive Lights Switch-On event will take place on the Grand Parade outside City Hall on Sunday 27 November 2022.  Making sure that all is in order, the Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Geordin Hill-Lewis and Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, were on hand last night (Tuesday) to test drive the lights ahead of the big event. Read more below: Joining the fun under the banner of City of Hope, were some of the artists who will be on stage.  Afro-fusion band Abavuki, Sasha-Lee Davids, the Jazzart Dance Theatre company, funny man and all-round good guy Wayne McKay and the irrepressible Shimmy Isaacs got to grips with Cape Town’s mercurial weather as the lights came on.

 The threat of inclement weather could not rain on the parade of the uplifting event last night.

 The City made an announcement at the beginning of November detailing a line-up that is full of energy. 

 Adding even more spark to the proceedings the Festive Lights Switch-On will now also include dynamic performances from popular T-pop act 4IAM, Vezz, Cape Town’s famous ‘bus busker’, Bernice West who will perform her song ‘Lyfie” – the Jazzart dance group will accompany Bernice and have created a dance for Capetonians to get in step together. Yesterday, it was also announced that multi-award-winning music artist, Zakes Bantwini will be lending his star power to the event with a set guaranteed to wow the audience.

 The Festive Lights Switch-On is a family-focused event that is FREE to attend.  Fun gets off to a start at 16:00 on Sunday 27th November on the Grand Parade and will end with a show stopping video mapping display at 22:00.
