Kirk Whalum heading to South Africa
By Funeka Bambalele

American R&B and smooth jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum is set to lead star‑studded lineup at this year’s Gauteng Soul & Jazz Concert.
The seasoned songwriter will be joined by our own Judith Sephuma, Lira, Zonke and dynamic duo Mafikizolo. This Gauteng Soul and Jazz Concert will happen at SunBet Arena in Pretoria on June 13. The event will happen just three days before the country commemorates a historic event on June 16. The 1976 Student Uprising will turn 50 this year.
Whalum, whose smooth, soulful sound has captivated audiences across the globe will add an international sparkle to an already impressive roster. Whalum, who has performed in South Africa before and even collaborated with the late star, Zahara, has been performing professionally since 1986. He has produced a string of albums, toured the world performing in big stages as well as producing music scores for different movies.
Whalum expressed his excitement about returning to South Africa, saying the country continues to hold a special place in his heart. “The energy, the audiences and the deep love for music make every visit unforgettable. I’m truly excited to be part of the Gauteng Soul and Jazz Concert and to share the stage with such incredible artists.”

For DJ Skeelo, CEO of Remoakantse Holdings, the event is about more than entertainment — it’s about cultural connection. “This concert is about creating a premium cultural experience that brings people together. We are proud to present a line‑up that reflects both global excellence and the very best of South African talent. 13 June 2026 is going to be a magical night.”
The Gauteng Soul and Jazz Concert prides itself as one of the province’s most prestigious live music events — a space where soul meets jazz, legends meet rising stars, and audiences leave with memories that linger long after the final note.
Organised by Remoakantse Holdings, the annual concert has earned a reputation for delivering premium live experiences — the kind that blend world‑class production with timeless music and a sophisticated, loyal audience. Tickets are available now via Webtickets and at Pick n Pay stores nationwide.
