By CityLife Arts Writer
31 January 2025, Johannesburg: Sjava’s Inkanyezi Live EP is out now! This is the closest Sjava has come to bottling the essence of his live shows – an essence that fans eagerly follow him from city to city to get another dose!
Following the release of his third studio album Isibuko in 2023, Sjava has focussed on his live performance craft, embarking on two live album tours (The Isibuko Tour and The 2016 Tour) in 2023 and 2024. These two sold-out tours, with a total of 12 stops in South Africa, were interwoven into an equally impressive national live gig calendar, as well as the independently produced iconic Sjava One Man Show at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Mbombela Stadium.
“As an artist, performing the music I create to a live audience is very important to me. It’s a different skill to creating music in the studio and it keeps me connected to the people. This project is for the people who have supported me in my live shows and its also an invitation to those who are yet to attend a Sjava show.” Sjava says.
Inkanyezi, literally means ‘a star’ and more personally to Sjava “A bright light that is able to shine even in the depths of the deepest darkness.”
He chose this name for the EP because of the significance that performing live is and has been in his career.
“The way I am able to connect with my supporters and fans during live performances is so profound and has been an anchor for me in my career. Even during the toughest of times, when I am on stage and the flow and exchange of light and energy is happening between me and the crowd, everything inside and all around catches a fire; a bright burning fire. That’s what keeps me going. That is what I do it for.”
