If you were planning to leave Johannesburg on Sunday, August 3, it might be a good idea to postpone the trip because one of the most enduring classical music outfit Buskaid, is having a date with discerning classical music fans at Linder Auditorium at Wits Education Campus in Parktown.
Believe you me, I have attended a number of their concerts over the years, and the young musicians are a marvel to watch. I have no reason to think that this time around, it will be different.
This particular concert is also going to be special because the special guest who will be featured is non other than internationally lauded opera singer Sibongile Mngoma, one of the most enduring opera voices to have merged from South Africa over the years.
Mngoma is charismatic, a true South African Diva whose stage presence never fails to overwhelm. She will be performing a selection of jazz, soul and rock songs this time around.
As always, this unique group of talented Soweto-based young musicians will be playing an eclectic mix of classical, light, and township beat, including South Africa’s very own Amapiano.
The programme includes a semi-staged performance of Telemann’s Don Quixote Suite, a selection from Purcell’s King Arthur, a virtuosic performance by Tshidiso Boikanyo (the Ensemble’s leader) of Hubay’s Hey Katie, Satie’s magical Gymnopédies with harpist Amarillie Ackermann, and music from the iconic film score of Psycho.

Book now to enjoy the Buskaid experience! Your ticket supports live music, as well as South Africa’s very own brilliant and internationally acclaimed Buskaid Ensemble!
