Pieces of Our Dream an exhibition shining young artists’ imaginations into tangible works to open in Johannesburg

By CityLife Arts Writer

Art collectors, art enthusiasts and those who support the arts in whatever way, will at the end of this month be introduced to art that is created by young artists, who are interpreting the reality of their short lived experience through creating art pieces, that hopefully will catch your eye and stimulate your imagination as well.

We often say that young people are innocent, and yes they are, and perhaps we are not giving them enough credit as adults when it comes to their sense of observation and perception.  The answer to your lingering about how the youth living contemporary South Africa see themselves as of now and in future,  maybe contained in the forthcoming exhibition that will take place at GalleryTrumpet, Keyes Art Mile, 21 Keyes Ave, Rosebank, Johannesburg on November 1, 2024 running till Thursday 14 November, 2024, from  09:00 – 23:00.

Aptly titled Pieces of Our Dream, the opening will be preceded by a private, by-invitation only viewing event on October 1, 2024.

Pieces of Our Dream is collaborative, youth-centric art initiative that asks budding artists to visualise their dreams, before they transform these into an empowering reality. Through perseverance, teamwork and collaboration these children are given the opportunity to delve deep into their aspirations, identifying a desired future, then giving it life.

Conceived by Ojiji, and facilitated by the Little Artists School, the project is led by established artists who guide these kids through a series of classes, conversations and creative processes. From there they work to turn their imaginations into tangible works, drawing on their collective strength as they make individual dreams flourish.

Each artwork tells a story of discovery and growth, showcasing how shared aspirations create something much greater than the sum of its parts.

Participating Artists are art students from the Little Artists School Edward Selematsela, Sbusiso Mendlula, Luwice Muziti, Lucas Kumba, Hendrick Kgosana, Nditsheni Managa and Buhle Hlatshwayo.
